METALS, METALICS AND SEQUINES OH MY!
After a shortly spell from the runway, this week we saw the re launch of Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival back in Brisbane and it went off with a BANG!
With a historic back drop of Old Government House, MBFF hosted an open aired runway event and lit government house up like a Christmas tree.
With the fresh August air whispering through our hair, it was a sea of metals, metallic, sequence and soft flowing draped easy to wear designs that hit this years runway show.
The 80’s called, they want their big hair and ruffles back!. This years trends definitely channeled the 80’s with ruffle skirts, puffy sleeves, velvet, high waists and big hair.
Ginger & Smart didn’t disappoint in this season metallic and sequence trend opening the show with a bit of glitz and glamour. Softly draped, easy to wear tops, dresses and skirts in soft pastels along with bold, oversized floral patterned dresses with strong a bold shoulder lines.
Aje is bringing ruffles back this season in a fun and flirty way. From ruffle skirts, to ruffle sleeves, it was a sea of pastel ruffles from Aje this year. Although we could see a pattern here in this spring/summer collection, Aje also delivered on style and wow factor with a stunning white high necked, buttoned dress bound to turn heads with its cut out waste.
Alice McCall got very playful with prints this season and who doesn’t like a great playsuit for Spring/Summer. With feathered trims and ruffled plunging necklines, Alice McCall played with polka dots and floral’s and it works! Along with the floral fun, we also saw some strong colours like mustard thrown into the mix.
Sporty, spice and all things nice, DION LEE was feeling a little blue this season and integrated a dash of sport in this years designs. When you think of a runway fashion show, you wouldn’t think you would see track pants coming down the isle but that’s exactly what we got from Dion Lee. Throw in a bit of army green, velvet and masculine tuxedo’s and you have Dion Lee’s Spring/Summer Collection. I must say, the army print and colours are working well in these designs.
There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that when they see a kaftan on the runway that it’s Camilla. Camilla is the Queen of Kaftans and no one will ever take that title away from her. This year Camilla delivered on colorful gorgeous playsuits with draping trains, soft flowing dresses and outstanding swimwear.
The runway finale finished in the same fashion it started. A stunning gold sequence dress from Harrods came strutting down the runway glistening under all the runway lights. A show stopper it was and maybe, just maybe, on my must have shopping list.
