Step into Coral Colour in 2019
This time each year I eagerly await the announcement from Pantone as to what the colour of the year will be. This colour determines and influences product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings, and industrial design, as well as product, packaging and graphic design so you can see why I am so eager to find out the colour pallet each year as this will determine what fashion we will be seeing flow through the stores in 2019. SO, the wait is over, next years colour is, Pantone 16-456 - Living Coral!
Described on Pantone’s Instagram as “an animating and life affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energises and enlivens with a softer edge,” I love the cheerful nature of next year’s colour. It goes on to say “Sociable and spirited, the engaging nature of Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity. Symbolising our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits, Living Coral embodies our desire for playful expression.”
Executive Director of Pantone Colour Institute, Leatrice Eiseman says “Colour is an equalizing lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities and this is particularly true for Living Coral.
It wasn’t long before stylish celebrities jumped on the trending hue with Gigi Haddid stepping out in a coat, pants and top in the trending shade as well as Jennifer Lopez hitting the red carpet in top to toe Living Coral hues. With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial PANTONE Living Coral hits a responsive cord”.
Vibrant, yet mellow, Living Coral will wrap us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment, nurturing us in our natural surroundings and at the same time, displays a lively presence within social media.
The great thing about the orangey-pink shade is it doesn’t just stop at fashion, you can wear it in a whole range of ways: on your cheeks, eyes, nails, or lips.
This shade will pop up everywhere from fashion runway shows to warm beauty looks, social media influencer posts and in consumer packaging. It’s meant to bring and embody, recreation, leisure and celebration. I can easily imagine the dynamic colour in a setting like a beach escape or the mellow rosy shade of a pair of trousers or dresses.
